Adenoid Hypertrophy

Eczema Herbs | Eczema TCM | Eczema treatment

Adenoid tissue, along with the tonsils, is part of the immune system and acts as the first line of defense against pathogens.

Adenoids are functional in infants and young children, blocking bacteria and viruses from entering the body through the nasal cavity.

Adenoids generally start to atrophy around 7 years of age and often become significantly smaller or even disappear in adulthood.

Frequent nasal, upper respiratory infections, or allergies can cause the adenoids to become enlarged due to persistent irritation and inflammation, leading to blockage of the nasal passages and various problems.

Effects of adenoid hypertrophy

  • Sleep disturbances such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea in children.
  • Increased risk of ear-nose-throat problems like otitis media and otitis media with effusion, potentially leading to hearing loss and tinnitus.
  • Facial deformities like long face, thick and upturned lips, and lack of facial expressions (adenoid facies) due to chronic mouth breathing.
  • Potential development of pulmonary hypertension and developmental delays due to chronic oxygen deprivation.

Three-step TCM treatment of adenoid hypertrophy

Herbal medicine: Strengthening the spleen, replenishing lung qi, and promoting diuresis and reduction of swelling to improve immune function and reduce upper respiratory infections, as well as alleviate nasal congestion and rhinorrhea.

Acupuncture: Stimulating specific acupuncture points to strengthen the spleen and boost the immune system, while also improving nasal symptoms.

Moxibustion: Applying herbal medicinal patches on acupuncture points to improve circulation and enhance the body’s resistance to cold and disease, effectively treating nasal congestion and allergies.

MANA Painless “laser acupuncture”

Combining traditional acupuncture with modern technology, laser acupuncture is a non-invasive, painless treatment suitable for children who are hesitant about traditional needles.

Low-intensity laser stimulation of acupuncture points like Lung Shu, Ding Chuan, Yingxiang, Spleen Shu, and Kidney Shu can help tonify qi and boost the immune system, synergizing with herbal medicine.
