Foot Assessment & Tailer-made Orthotics

Part 1- Flow of Foot Assessment

足部檢查, foot assessment

Part 2- Gait Re-education

Based on the results from the initial assessment, the therapist will perform targeted gait corrections to help the client improve control over their feet, enhance walking posture and efficiency, and reduce the likelihood of muscle tension and pain.

The gait correction techniques include:

  • Landing mechanics
  • Improving ability to control foot/ankle position
  • Improving Knee control
  • Improving Pelvic control
  • Improving Upper and lower body coordination

Part 3- Tailor-made Orthotics

After completing the first part of the testing, we will first explain the patient’s condition to the client, and based on individual circumstances, determine whether a custom orthotic is needed. The main factors to consider include:

  • Degree of foot pronation
  • Walking posture
  • Age
  • Lifestyle habits
  • Exercise habits
  • Past experience with orthotics

In appropriate situations, based on the results from the first part of the examination, a customized orthotic can be fabricated.

  • Select appropriate size & materials of the insole
  • Trim the shape accordingly
  • Add parts depending of client’s own condition, e.g. thumb support, heel lift
  • Use specific heat gun to mode the insole
