Post-Operative Rehabilitation

Common Post-Operative Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy plays an important role in the post-operative rehabilitation process. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL) and rotator cuff repair generally require 6 to 9 months of rehabilitation training. The goal of post-operative rehabilitation is to help patients restore motor function, reduce pain, improve flexibility, and regain the ability to perform daily living activities.

MANA Post-Operative Rehabilitation

In addition to traditional post-operative physiotherapy, MANA also provides post-operative TCM treatment to help patients recover faster.

It is an individualized process that varies according to the type of surgery and the patient’s specific condition. MANA adopts an integrated approach of Western and Chinese medicine to provide more comprehensive treatment for patients.

The physiotherapist and physician will adjust the treatment plan based on the patient’s needs and progress, along with the patient’s active participation and lifestyle adjustments, to achieve a smooth post-operative rehabilitation.

Post-Operative Rehabilitation- Physiotherapy

The physiotherapist will assess the patient’s post-operative condition, including the surgical site, post-operative pain, range of motion, and functional limitations.

Based on the assessment results, an individualized rehabilitation goal will be set.

  • Pain management: There may be pain and discomfort after surgery. The physiotherapist can use techniques like cold therapy, electrotherapy, and ultrasound to alleviate pain and guide the patient in self-pain management.
  • Flexibility and stretching: Perform stretching and flexibility exercises to restore normal joint range of motion and reduce tissue fibrosis.
  • Functional recovery: The physiotherapist will help the patient regain the ability to perform daily living activities, such as walking, sitting, and gripping objects, including balance training, gait training, skill training, and assistive device guidance.
  • Restoring motor function: The physiotherapist will design specific exercise programs, including range of motion, strength training, stretching, strengthening, and balance training.

Post-Operative Rehabilitation- TCM

  • Chinese herbal therapy: The physician will prescribe herbs to tonify the spleen and boost qi, as well as promote blood circulation and facilitate scar healing, based on the patient’s symptoms and constitution.

  • Acupuncture: Specific acupuncture points or relaxation of scar adhesions can relieve muscle spasms, promote scar healing and blood circulation, and help the patient recover faster.
