TCM perspective of uterine fibroids

From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, uterine fibroids are associated with stagnant qi and blood stasis, as well as liver depression and spleen deficiency, where impaired circulation of qi and blood leads to blood stasis and phlegm accumulation, resulting in the formation of fibroids over time.

TCM treatment of uterine fibroids

Traditional Chinese medicine focuses on regulating qi and blood, as well as promoting blood circulation and resolving blood stasis, with the goal of alleviating symptoms and slowing or preventing the growth of fibroids.

Herbal medicine: The practitioner will prescribe appropriate herbal formulas based on the patient’s specific symptoms and constitution, such as those that promote blood circulation, resolve blood stasis, and tonify the spleen.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture can regulate the flow of qi and blood, and also improve pelvic blood circulation. By stimulating specific acupuncture points, such as Guanyuan, Zigong, and Sanyinjiao, it can help regulate qi and blood, promote blood circulation, and improve the symptoms and management of uterine fibroids.

Self-regulation of uterine fibroids

  1. Dietary adjustment: Consume an appropriate amount of foods rich in vitamins and minerals, increase the intake of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Reduce the consumption of red meat, high-fat, and high-sugar foods.
  2. Avoid excessive vigorous exercise: Avoid prolonged and strenuous exercise that may disrupt the balance of qi and blood.
  3. Regulate emotions: Maintain a good psychological state and avoid long-term emotional suppression and anxiety.
  4. Regular gynecological examination: Undergo regular gynecological examinations to detect and manage uterine fibroids early.
